Area Description:

Shipwreck Beach is a remote location on the northwest corner of Lāna‘i which is in the middle of some of the most extensive reef area in the state of Hawai‘i. This gradual reef slope has a classic spur and groove formation with moderate to high coral cover (40-50%). It is quite inaccessible except by boat travel and supports a diverse and rich fauna and flora. As noted from aerial surveys this area is subjected to moderate wave activity through the Pailolo channel and periodic sedimentation from precipitation along the slopes of Lāna‘i.
