CRAMP Rapid Assessment. Habitat Classification ResultsMultivariate analysis was used to see if there were differences in the factors based on the 6 habitat types. The habitat classification types based on exposure and depth included sheltered and exposed sites less that 5 meters, between 5 and 10 m and deeper than 10 m. Ten variables show distinct differences between the 6 habitat types. These include total coral cover, medium grain-size sand, silt, very fine sand, Porites compressa, sand, coralline algae, turf algae, wave direction and numeric abundance of fishes. These 10 factors are significantly stratified by depth and wave exposure. Reference sites were separated based on these 6 habitat classifications. To determine if the reference sites fell within the predicted classification a discriminant analysis was conducted. Of the reference sites, only 43% fell in the predicted habitat class. Similar results were obtained when all stations were included (38%). The figure below shows considerable overlap of reference sites with no consistent pattern between the six habitat classes.
Principal components analysis of reference sites by habitat class This is mainly due to the fact that most of the habitat classes were not statistically different from one another for the majority of the variables. Only 10 of the 61 variables showed distinct differences between at least two of the six habitat classes. |
